St. Laurand White
St. Laurand White
When people think of French wines, they probably think of Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne first, and rightly so. However, the world of French wine is so much faster than just those regions and absolutely worth exploring. The wines of Saint Laurand come from a region called Sud de France (literally South of France, in English). This region is down on the coast of the Mediterranean and provides a completely different experience from some of the other regions of France.
This wine, a wine imported specifically for Splash, is made with an unusual grape too – Ugni Blanc. It is a grape found throughout Europe but often under other names, perhaps the most famous of which is Trebbiano, found in Italy. The wines made with this grape are fresh and fruity and exciting – vibrant might be the best word.
That is certainly fitting for the Saint Laurand Collection Privee. It is a bright yellow in color with some nice green tints. The nose is instantly enticing of white fruits like peach and nice citruses like lemon and grapefruit. There is an underlying bit of floral note as well. The wine is immensely fresh on the palate and ready to excite. A beautiful wine for salad or even grilled fish.
